About

What we do and why we exist

Open Eyes expands access to technology, media and digital education for people who are often left out of a world that runs on screens.

Five people of different ages and abilities, including a wheelchair user and a cane user, talk around a table with tablets.

Our mission

Open Eyes is an organization that helps people who are blind or visually impaired, older adults and young people use technology and media with confidence, safety and independence.

Why it matters

In an increasingly digital world, technology is no longer optional. It is how people communicate, learn, find work and stay independent. As more of daily life has moved online, people without access, training or support are left further behind.

Open Eyes exists to close that gap with hands-on, inclusive and practical technology education.

Who we serve

  • People who are blind or visually impaired learn accessible and assistive technology that supports independence, safety and connection.
  • Older adults get patient, step-by-step guidance to stay connected, informed and safe from scams.
  • Young people explore technology, media and STEM, and see the careers behind the content they watch.
  • Children with autism and sensory sensitivities join sensory-friendly sessions that move at their pace.
  • Families and neighbors learn together in community programs.

How we teach

Our teaching is hands-on, patient and practical. People work on real devices and real tasks, ask as many questions as they need, and leave able to do something they could not do before.

In every program we also teach digital safety and responsible media use: how to protect personal information, recognize online risks and move through digital spaces with awareness.

What we believe

Confidence, dignity and independence. No one should be left behind in the digital age, and no one should have to use technology on someone else’s terms.

Open Eyes is not simply teaching people how to use technology. It is helping them take part fully in the world around them.
