What is Open Eyes?
Open Eyes is an organization that helps people who are blind or visually impaired, older adults and young people use technology and media with confidence, safety and independence.
Do I have to be blind or visually impaired to take part?
No. Open Eyes serves several groups: people who are blind or visually impaired, older adults, young people, children with autism and sensory sensitivities, and families and neighbors. See the programs to find the right fit.
What is a screen reader?
A screen reader is software that reads what is on a screen aloud, or sends it to a braille display, so you can use a phone or computer without seeing the screen. VoiceOver (iPhone and Mac), TalkBack (Android), Narrator (Windows) and NVDA (Windows) are examples. See our resources page.
How do I ask about a session?
Use the Find a session form and tell us what you would like to learn. A member of the team will get back to you. There is no obligation.
Can I bring a family member or a friend?
Yes. You can bring a family member or a friend into the conversation when you get in touch, and families are welcome in our community programs.
I am helping someone else. Can I ask on their behalf?
Yes. Use the refer someone form. Please share only what you are comfortable sharing, and only what the person would be comfortable with.
Where can I find dates, places and costs?
Details depend on the program. Tell us what you are interested in on the Find a session form, and we will reply with what is available.
